I love watching an image take shape through a small aperture – either in the camera or in the artworks I build. The reflection is just a fleeting moment that I try to seemingly capture to experience it again. Especially now, in a time of the AI disruption, I want to simplify and create camera-based images without digital manipulation, preserving the ontological core of photography.

I was photographing in a dimly lit studio, where I had set up a composition on the table. I worked methodically, taking several photos in succession, when something startled me — an image appeared on my computer screen that was strikingly different from the previous shots. At first glance, I interpreted the image as featuring a human-like figure: two legs clad in purple slippers. Curious and unsettled, I took the same picture three times, and each time the result was equally peculiar. To troubleshoot, I turned off the camera, restarted it, and resumed shooting as usual. The anomaly was gone. However, the situation stuck in my mind and I am fascinated byt that strange photograph. I often explore new perspectives in photography through experimental techniques, and this unexpected image felt like a breakthrough. It woke me up – shook me with a new frequency. While part of me is tempted to interpret the image as a ghostly apparition, I am equally intrigued by the idea that it could simply be a camera glitch. The fact that the image captured by the camera differs from what I saw with my own eyes makes me wonder — is it possible the camera momentarily glimpsed into another dimension?

Olin pimennetyssä studiossa kuvaamassa ja koonnut kuvauspöydälle asetelman. Työskentelin sarjamaisesti ottaen useita valokuvia peräkkäin kunnes hätkähdin – tietokoneen näytöllä ilmestyi kuva, joka oli huomattavasti erilainen kuin aikaisemmat ottamani valokuvat. Ensimmäinen tulkintani kuvasta oli, että siinä on ihmisen kaltainen olio. Kaksi jalkaa ja niissä purppuran väriset tossut. Otin saman kuvan kolme kertaa ja joka kerran kuva näytti samanlaisesti oudolta. Suljin kameran ja käynnistin kameran uudelleen ja jatkoin kuvaamista normaaliin tapaan. Poikkeavuus oli poistunut. Tilanne jäi kuitenkin mieleeni ja olen innostunut tästä oudosta valokuvastani. Haen usein kokeellisten työskentelytapojen kautta uusia näkökulmia valokuvaan ja tämä valokuva oli juuri sellainen, mikä ilmestyi odottamatta. Se herätteli – ravisutti minua uudella taajuudella. Huolimatta siitä, että haluaisin tulkita kuvan aaveen näyttäytymiseksi, on se myös kameran virheenä kiinnostava. Kameran tallentama kuva poikkeaa näkemästäni; aivan kuin kamera näkisi toiseen ulottuvuuteen.
